Zakaat , Purpose and Distribution

BGIC

Zakaat

Currently, the three Fiji Muslim League Branches in Ba have a total of 253 Zakaat recipients as follows:

  • Ba – 138
  • Varavu – 70
  • Rarawai – 45

The collection of Zakaat generally falls under the direct responsibility of individual FML Branch.

These three Branches do not send officials overseas during Ramadan to collect Zakaat. They rely on Zakaat collected in Ramadan from local community for distribution to the poor and needy families.

When BGIC contacted the three Branches in Ba, we found the following to be the current situation:

  • Ba Branch can only afford to give each of the 138 families on their Zakaat list FJD30 per month.
  • Rarawai and Varavu Branches do not have any Zakaat funds in their Baitul Maal. Hence 45 poor and needy families from Rarawai and 70 from Varavu do not get any Zakaat from the Branch at all. If and when the Branch receives funds either from individuals or overseas organisations, then the Branch distributes the funds to their Zakaat recipients immediately.

BGIC

Purpose

The purpose of BGIC is to reach out to all former Ba residents, and their sympathisers, living overseas who are Alhamdulillah blessed with enough income that Zakaat is Wajib on them. We understand that most of us are helping organisations and the poor and needy in your own country, in Fiji or other Muslims around the world.

Our most humble request to you all is to remember our roots and at least consider giving some of your Zakaat, Khairaat and Sadaqa to the poor and needy families in the district of Ba.

To make this easy for us all, we have created an online platform where you can simply click on ‘Donate’ and use either a debit or credit card to deposit your Zakaat or other donations into the BGIC account.

BGIC

Distribution

BGIC’s intention is to ensure that each family from the three branches who qualify for Zakaat receives at least FJD100 every month. We know that this amount is not adequate and we endeavour to increase this funding level based on your generous support.

We deal directly with the local FML Branches with funds transferred electronically to the Branch Zakaat account. An official receipt is issued by the Branch to BGIC each time it receives the money in its bank account. Branches distribute the funds on our behalf and send us a report each month with a list of names of all recipients and their signatures indicating that they have received funds sent by BGIC. We will be providing regular reporting on our website for the benefit of all our donors.

Urgent Appeal

Cost of living everywhere is very high and Fiji is no exception. It is indeed very sad to see that in the district of Ba there are families who cannot afford simple necessities of life. The Zakaat recipients from Ba have advised us that at times they cannot afford to buy much needed medication as they simply do not have enough money. The cost of frozen chicken ranges from FJD15 to FJD25 depending on the size of the chicken. Ba Branch Zakaat recipients who receive FJD30 per month have to make a very difficult choice of whether to treat their children and others in the house and buy a chicken or save to ensure that the money can last a little bit longer than a few days. Varavu and Rarawai families on Branch Zakaat list do not even have the luxury to make such choices. You can IMPROVE LIVES of the underprivileged families in the district of Ba, by donating your Zakaat, Khairaat, Fitra and Sadaqa through BGIC.

Your help is needed.

Thank you so much for your help in getting the poor and needy people of Ba the support they need!

May Allah SWT bless and reward you and your family.
